Supplier Food Safety & Quality Assurance

Water Lilies has been a Wegmans supplier partner for over 20 years

We only partner with suppliers who share our values and our commitment to the freshest, highest quality products.  Below are guidelines for being a Wegmans Brand finished good, ingredient or packaging supplier.

Water Lilies has been a Wegmans supplier partner for over 20 years

To supply Wegmans Brand products, ingredients or packaging, the following are required of all suppliers:

  • Be certified by a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognized certification program (or Harmonized GAP Plus+, produce only)
  • Agree to and uphold Wegmans Supplier Codes of Practice
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, and municipal laws and regulations
  • Provide a certificate of insurance
  • U.S.-based suppliers must provide their Federal Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN); non-U.S. suppliers must provide a current W-9 tax certificate as a part of the vendor setup process
  • New suppliers must provide a social accountability audit conducted within the last 12 months, if available

We rely on the partnership of Wegmans Brand product, ingredient or packaging suppliers who share our commitment to food safety and food quality. By clearly communicating our expectations, supplier-partners will be better able to help us consistently provide products that are safe and of the highest quality.

Below are links to our Supplier Codes of Practice:

  • Wegmans Brand Food Suppliers (Finished Products or Raw Materials/Ingredients)
  • Wegmans Brand Non-Food Suppliers – Coming Soon
  • Wegmans Food Packaging Suppliers – Coming Soon

All Wegmans suppliers are required to have a formal recall plan in place detailing how the company will directly contact the Wegmans Category Merchant and Product Recall Team prior to public notification.

In addition, we expect your Supplier Recall Program to include:

  • An internal Recall Team with specified roles and backups
  • Guidelines on performing mock recall

Required for Wegmans Brand suppliers:

  • A statement that the Supplier will notify their GFSI certifying body, the appropriate GFSI standard office and any other regulatory agencies (FDA, USDA, etc.)
  • In the event that a press release is required, the Supplier is responsible for providing a draft release to the Wegmans Media Relations team for final approval; the Supplier is also responsible for the distribution of the Wegmans-approved press release to media outlets

In addition to GFSI certification, Wegmans merchandising and supplier quality assurance teams may collaboratively decide to visit a Wegmans Brand supplier for an on-site assessment (driven by a shift in GFSI score, product complaints, new supplier sites, etc.)

The objectives of Wegmans Collaborative On-Site Assessments are to:

  • Review program documentation (for example, Food Safety Plan, Food Defense Plan, GMPs, etc.)
  • Share best practices in food safety/quality assurance
  • Build relationships between FSQA teams
