Wegmans Donates $15,000 to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in Advance of West Cary Store Opening

Cary, N.C., July 17, 2020 – On Wednesday, July 22, the Wegmans West Cary team will present the first of two checks of $7,500 to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. The second donation will be made in January 2021 for a total donation of $15,000 to the Food Shuttle. These funds will be used to build a third high tunnel at the Food Shuttle Farm, increasing the Food Shuttle’s ability to increase crops of carrots, beets, lettuce, spinach, and more. This additional high tunnel will enable a higher quality product in a shorter time frame – allowing the Food Shuttle to provide more produce to their programs such as Mobile Markets, Grocery Bags for Seniors, and through their distribution to community partners.

“We are grateful for Wegmans generous support of our Agricultural programs, specifically on our 14-acre farm. This additional high tunnel will make a direct impact in our ability to infuse our programs with more produce throughout the year,” said Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s President and CEO, L. Ron Pringle.

At the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, Wegmans also donated $60,000 to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina in order to provide food directly to people in need.

“At Wegmans, we strive to make a difference in every community we serve, even before we open our doors to a new store,” said store manager Katie Duchnowski. “We are committed to being a good neighbor to the Cary community, and we will continue to work with local organizations to improve the lives of our customers and employees in every way we can.”

Last year, in all its market areas, Wegmans donated 18.6 million pounds of food to local food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens.

Wegmans Cary opens July 29 at 9 a.m. located at 3710 Davis Drive, Morrisville, NC. For more information please visit https://www.wegmans.com/west-cary/.
