Plan Your Garden

Before you dig in, decide what you’d like to plant. Favorites like tomatoes, carrots, lettuce and herbs are great for first-time gardeners. Check the Farmer’s Almanac for the best plants and planting times for your region and climate. Then, choose the right garden for your space.

  • 4×4 Raised Bed – Even 6 inches is enough height. Just choose a spot that gets 6-8 hours of sun a day.
  • Pots or Containers – Use pots that offer good drainage and enough room to grow. Most plants do well in 12″‑15″ pots.

Start Your Seeds Inside

This makes it easy and fun for kids to watch their seedlings grow. Starting your seeds inside also gives your plants a head start, bringing an earlier harvest and letting your kids enjoy their fruits and veggies sooner.

Take Your Garden Outside

Let your little gardener choose where they want to plant their plants in the garden. Have them water and tend to their plants, and soon they’ll be ready for harvest!
