Wegmans to Anchor Reimagined Galleria of Mt. Lebanon

ROADSIDE DEVELOPMENT AND WEGMANS FOOD MARKETS ANNOUNCE PLANS TO BUILD ON THE PROPERTY’S LEGACY AS A SOUTH HILLS COMMUNITY DESTINATION

MT. LEBANON, Pa. — Roadside Development and Wegmans Food Markets today announced that Wegmans will serve as the anchor tenant of the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon, marking a significant milestone in the future of the longtime South Hills retail destination. The addition of Wegmans will strengthen the property’s long-term viability while building on its legacy as a community hub.

Originally built as a Kaufmann’s department store and converted into an indoor shopping center in 1988, the approximately 168,000-square-foot Galleria has served the South Hills community for decades. Roadside and Wegmans plan to reimagine the two-story property, maintaining the Galleria’s retail character while introducing a new everyday shopping destination. Together, they aim to reposition the Galleria to preserve the vibrant retail environment for generations to come.

“For decades, the Galleria has been part of the fabric of the South Hills community. Bringing Wegmans to the former Kaufmann’s site creates an opportunity to build on that history and give residents another reason to make the Galleria part of their everyday lives,” said Jeff Edelstein, President of Roadside Development. “We’re focused on positioning the property for long-term success while honoring the role it has played in the community.”

Wegmans is a regional supermarket chain known for its broad selection of fresh foods and customer-focused shopping experience. The approximately 110,000 square foot store will feature all of Wegmans’ signature departments including produce, seafood, meat, bakery, deli, cheese, and restaurant foods, as well as an extensive selection of wine and beer.

“As we make progress on our first store in the Pittsburgh market in Cranberry Township, we’re thrilled to take another exciting step in the region with the purchase

of the Galleria Mall property in Mt. Lebanon,” said Dan Aken, Wegmans Vice President of Real Estate and Store Planning. “We recognize the significance this property holds for the community and see a tremendous opportunity to give it new life. Together with Roadside Development, we look forward to reinventing the site in a way that honors its importance to the community and creates something we can all be proud of.”

“The redevelopment of the Galleria represents an exciting opportunity to strengthen one of Mt. Lebanon’s key commercial destinations,” said Keith McGill, Municipal Manager of Mt. Lebanon. “We are pleased to work alongside Roadside Development to bring new investment and energy to the property. The addition of Wegmans is a significant milestone that will not only support the Galleria’s long-term success but also bring a highly anticipated amenity to our residents and the surrounding community.”

Roadside and Wegmans expect to begin renovations at the Galleria in 2028; other retailers will remain open during the process. Additional details about the Galleria’s redevelopment will be announced as plans progress.

Wegmans first announced its expansion into the Pittsburgh region in 2025, with plans for a new store in Cranberry Township. The company broke ground on the approximately 115,000-square-foot store in August 2026, and construction is now underway. The store is anticipated to open in fall 2027.
