Rochester, N.Y. – Wegmans Food Markets today kicked off its companywide Fill the Bus/Fill the Backpack scan campaign to raise money for the company’s 48 Feeding America food bank partners. Starting June 4, customers can donate $3, $5, or any amount at checkout, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to each store’s local food bank.
“As food banks grapple with federal funding cuts, they are struggling to find ways to fund their vast variety of programs supporting children, families, and individuals,” said Wegmans Community Relations Manager Linda Lovejoy. “Even small donations can add up to make a huge impact on reducing hunger in our local neighborhoods.”
Donations made during this campaign help support local food bank’s summer feeding and backpack programs. These programs ensure school-aged children continue to have access to adequate food during the summer months when free and reduced-price school lunches are unavailable.
“Summer is always a challenging time for families seeking to put nutritious food on their tables because schools are closed and free breakfasts and lunches aren’t accessible to the children who normally rely on them,” said Radha Muthiah, president and CEO of the Capital Area Food Bank. “This year, we know that even more people in our region are facing tough economic circumstances. That’s why we’re grateful to Wegmans and its customers for helping us ensure kids and families can get the good, nutritious food they need to thrive this summer and into the future.”
Wegmans has a long history of supporting local food banks through daily food donations and annual scan campaigns. In 2024, Wegmans donated more than 36.6 million pounds of food, and its customers raised more than $3.2 million through its annual scan campaigns to help reduce hunger.
