Reston, Va., September 12, 2022 -Hiring and training is now underway for more than 250 part-time positions at Wegmans Food Markets new store in Reston, Virginia. The 85,000 square-foot store is located in the Halley Rise development at the intersection of Reston Parkway and Sunrise Valley Drive.
The Reston team is currently accepting online applications for a variety of part-time openings across every department in the store, from culinary roles to customer service representatives. Hiring for full-time jobs began this spring and is ongoing for select positions, including shift leaders, food service managers, and cooks. The store has partnered with the Reston YMCA to host an in-person hiring event for all positions on Wednesday, September 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The hiring event will be held at the Reston YMCA, located at 12196 Sunset Hills Rd. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit an online application in advance of the event through this link. A member of the Wegmans hiring team will contact applicants to schedule a time for an interview. Interviews will also be provided to walk-in applicants on the day of the event. Dave LaBranche was recently hired for a full-time position at the new Reston store. Employed at a competitor for over 20 years, LaBranche considered a career change when he noticed a culture shift at his former company. He regularly shopped at Wegmans stores in Virginia and observed that the employees were always happy.
“I stopped in Wegmans to pick something up and the cashier was super friendly. I asked her if she liked her job, and she said yes,” said LaBranche. “She explained that Wegmans is family owned, and the management staff bend over backward to help you. It reminded me of how my company used to be.”
LaBranche decided to apply for a position at Wegmans. In late June, he started training at the Dulles, Virginia location in preparation for his role as a Service Team Leader (STL) at Reston. His training includes shadowing current STLs to understand the responsibilities of the job, learning the registers and point of sale systems, and rotating through each department within the store to learn basic procedures so he can assist as needed.
One of the people LaBranche has shadowed and worked closely with is Tamara Rios, who will also work at the Reston store upon opening. LaBranche appreciates her support and guidance, which he’s come to appreciate as part of the culture at Wegmans.
“Tamara took me under her wing. She showed me the way and answered any questions I had,” said LaBranche. “It doesn’t matter if you’ve been with the company for 20 years or two months, everyone wants you to succeed. We all have the same goal to help each other and help the customer. It really does feel like a family here, which is important to me because I don’t have any family locally. It’s nice to know that I have people who I can count on.”
At Reston, LaBranche will oversee a team of cashiers on the Front End of the store, as well as provide support for various other departments whenever necessary. He’s looking forward to the opportunity to help other employees find their passion.
“We have so many young kids that work here, and a lot of them stay here to build a career. They stay for a reason,” said LaBranche. “I want to help them find a skill they are good at and watch them grow.”
Wegmans Reston is scheduled to open in early 2023. The company entered Virginia with its Dulles location in 2004, growing its presence steadily ever since. The Reston location will be the company’s fifteenth store in the commonwealth. In total, the store will employ more than 400 people, most of whom will be new to the company and hired locally.
