The employee scholarship program is a long-standing tradition at Wegmans that were especially proud of, said Wegmans Chantilly Store Manager Brien MacKendrick. As a new neighbor in Chantilly, were happy to award honorary scholarships this year and look forward to celebrating a new class of Wegmans employee scholarship recipients from our store in 2019.

The local recipients join 1,675 Wegmans employees that were granted new scholarships this year, with an expected payout of $5 million to the programs current and new recipients for the 2018/2019 academic year. Since the program began in 1984, more than 36,500 Wegmans employees have been awarded scholarships totaling $115 million.

To receive a scholarship, Wegmans employees must meet work-performance criteria. Eligibility is also based on a minimum number of work hours over a specified time period. Part-time employees can receive up to $6,000 over four years and full-time employees can receive up to $8,800 over four years, with no limit placed on the number of scholarships awarded and no restrictions on a students course of study from an accredited college.

Wegmans Chantilly celebrated its grand opening on June 3 at The Field at Commonwealth, near the intersection of Route 28 and Westfields Boulevard. More than 1,000 customers lined up before the doors opened at 7 a.m. and approximately 19,500 shoppers visited the new store throughout the day. Wegmans Chantilly is now open from 6 a.m. to midnight daily.
