Local Nonprofits Fuel Growth and Opportunity for Hispanic Community

Hispanic-Latinx heritage month is celebrated every year from September 15 through October 15 to honor and recognize the cultures and contributions of Hispanic-Latinx Americans. At Wegmans, we’re committed to being a great place to work and shop for all, and that includes partnering with various community organizations that support diverse populations. Below are just a few of the organizations we partner with that support the Hispanic-Latinx community in our neighborhoods.

Hispanic Center of the Lehigh Valley; Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

Since 1968, the Hispanic Center of the Lehigh Valley has empowered low-income individuals throughout Northampton County, PA. The organization supports people of all races and ethnicities, but was originally known as the Council of Spanish Speaking Organizations of the Lehigh Valley, Inc. Today, they operate a senior center, food pantry, workforce development center, and social services programs. Their programs help community members to find employment, learn English, and access vital community resources to become self-sufficient, all while promoting an intercultural understanding in the Lehigh Valley.

Our Allentown store team has visited the Hispanic Center to learn more about their services and the role they play in the local community. We’ve supported the center through various donations, including collecting toys for the center to distribute to their clients during the 2024 holiday season, helping to bring joy to local children.

ACLAMO; Norristown, Pennsylvania
ACLAMO is a nonprofit community service organization that provides educational programs, social services, and access to health and wellness programs to Latinos and other community members. With offices in Norristown, Pottstown, and Lansdale, Pennsylvania, they served over 16,000 people last year including children, families, and adults.

At the start of the 2025 school year, our King of Prussia store donated over 40 backpacks filled with school supplies to support children who attend ACLAMO’s educational programs. The store also provided a $300 check to help stock their school pantry for the fall.

The Joseph A. Unanue Latino Institute; South Orange, New Jersey
Our Woodbridge, N.J. store has supported the Joseph A. Unanue Latino Institute at Seton Hall University, which provides academic, cultural and community programs to students from all walks of life. Established in 2005, the Institute has awarded $2 million in scholarships to more than 550 recipients. They host dozens of activities for students throughout the year including a distinguished speaker series, unique travel experiences, and a mentorship program. The Institute encourages students to give back to the community through volunteer opportunities and promotes Latin America’s rich culture and history through various programs for the entire campus community.
