Supporting the communities we operate in is at the heart of Wegmans. One of our core values is giving back to our neighbors, generating lasting impact. We aim to accomplish this by focusing on key areas where we can help. Three of those areas are hunger relief, education, and youth support. Wegmans is aiding specifically in those areas not only this back-to-school season, but throughout the whole year as well.
Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club (Carlyle, Virginia)
Our Carlyle, Virginia store recently partnered with their local branch of The Boys & Girls Club to support families in the area. The Club provides after-school enrichment programs for children to attend if they can’t go home right when school lets out. They create safe places and encourage kids to reach their full potential through mentorships and even college scholarships.
This partnership resulted in a fun and educational event for children of The Boys & Girls Club in Carlyle. Around 12 children learned from a Wegmans cook how to make their own pizza. They participated in every step, from rolling out the dough, adding their choice of toppings, to seeing the final product come out of the oven. Each child got their own personal pizza and was able to bring supplies home to recreate the experience there. Additionally, when the program ended and the kids went home, they were given a small Wegmans reusable bag of snacks to enjoy.

Blessings in a Backpack (Frederick, Maryland)
In Frederick, Maryland, Wegmans fights food insecurity among school-aged children by partnering with Blessings in a Backpack. This organization provides food on weekends for school-aged children. Since the partnership began in 2016, Wegmans has donated more than $94,000.
Recently, the Frederick Wegmans store participated in the Weekend Backpack Program, which serves 3,000 children across 31 Frederick County Public Schools. More than 30,000 hunger-free weekends were provided by Wegmans this past school year. A recent $7,500 donation for the program from Wegmans provided weekend food for 105 students for the last 6 months of the 25-26 school year.

Truman High School (Yardley, Pennsylvania)
In Pennsylvania, our Yardley team has partnered with Truman High School’s food pantry since the store opening in 2024, donating almost $4,000. Even before the store opened officially, our employees stocked the school’s pantry with various foods, and now continuously offer support as needed.
The Truman High School pantry gives us an opportunity to support students and families when they need it most. Being an outreach partner is both humbling and rewarding, and we’re proud to help provide relief and support a brighter future for those facing food insecurity,” said Dave Hemmer, Service Area manager at the Yardley store.

Carlyle, Frederick and Yardley are not the only areas where Wegmans is making a difference.
