Each May, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month honors Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) by recognizing and celebrating their contributions to American history, society, and culture. This year, we’re highlighting three organizations that are making a difference for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders through various events and programs.
Asian Americans United (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
In October 2025, our Pennsylvania division partnered with Asian Americans United to support the 30th Annual Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival. The festival featured arts and culture including lion dances, traditional Asian theater, folk arts games, and more than 90 performers.
Founded in 1985 by a small group of volunteers, Asian Americans United provides youth leadership development programs, arts and cultural programs, and advocacy and civic engagement work for immigrant, refugee and non-English speaking students and their families.
Tamil Sangam of Carolina (Morrisville, North Carolina)
Tamil Sangam of Carolina is a nonprofit organization that celebrates and preserves Tamil heritage, language, and traditions in the Carolinas through educational, cultural, and social initiatives.
Earlier this year, our North Carolina stores supported a Pongal celebration hosted by Tamil Sangam of Carolina. Pongal is an annual harvest festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu and other parts of South India. The multi-day festival marks the end of the winter solstice and the beginning of the sun’s journey northwards, known as Uttarayan. It is a time to honor and celebrate Mother Nature, the Sun, and the agricultural fields that sustain life. Tamil Sangam of Carolina served lunch, dinner, and snacks during their event to community members celebrating Pongal.
Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (Washington, D.C.)
We have partnered with the Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs in Washington, D.C. since opening our Wisconsin Ave. store in 2022. Our donations have supported Lunar New Year celebrations and parades, holiday events throughout the year, and movie nights.
Since 1987, MOAPIA has provided services and programing for local Asian American and Pacific Islander residents living in the District. The office connects AAPI residents and businesses with local agencies to foster partnerships, improve access to services, and help break down language and cultural barriers.
At Wegmans, we’re proud to partner with organizations that uplift, support, and celebrate people of all backgrounds. To learn more about diversity and inclusion at Wegmans, visit our website.
