Carbon Footprint
Over the past decade, we have shifted from a fleet powered entirely by diesel to one where 76% of our heavy-duty trucks now operate on compressed natural gas (CNG) or electricity.
As we continue to expand our geographical footprint, our shift from diesel to cleaner energy sources further reduces our carbon footprint. Contracting 100% renewable natural gas for our CNG trucks reduces our NOx emissions by 90% and harnesses methane that would otherwise enter the atmosphere. Our electric vehicles also emit significantly fewer pollutants than diesel, including zero tailpipe emissions.
Eliminating Waste
When we started on the road to zero waste in 2016 with a one-store pilot at our Canandaigua, NY, store, the company had an average recycling rate of 64.4%. In 2024, we achieved an average recycling of 87%, with 12 stores boasting a rate of 90% or above. The stores with the highest recycling rates can trace their success to the commitment of their people to create a culture of doing what’s right for the environment, our customers, and our company.
We continue to learn from our high-performing stores, sharing their success across the company and focusing on innovative solutions to help us achieve our ultimate goal of sending zero waste to landfill.
