Wegmans Chantilly Donates 9,001 Pounds of Food to Western Fairfax Christian Ministries

CHANTILLY, VA, May 17, 2018On Thursday, May 17 at 9 a.m., Wegmans soon-to-open store in Chantilly will deliver 9,001 pounds of non-perishable food to Western Fairfax Christian Ministries (WFCM). The donation includes 10 pallets of assorted vegetables and fruit, baking needs, snacks, breakfast items and juice that will help stock up the pantry shelves for summer. This is the first of two small truckloads Wegmans is donating. The second delivery, scheduled for October, will bring the total to more than 18,000 pounds of food.

"We are honored to partner with Wegmans in helping feed our neighbors, said WFCM Executive Director Rebecca Kolowe. People often forget that hunger still exists, and Wegmans support through these deliveries will make a difference for those we serve."

When the truck arrives at the pantry, Wegmans Store Manager Brien MacKendrick will be on hand along with a team of employees from the Chantilly store to help unload the food and stock the shelves.

We know that food pantries build stronger communities, said MacKendrick. As we head into the summer months, its an especially critical time for food insecurity, and its our privilege to fill the shelves at WFCM for the first time before we open.

Every year, Wegmans donates more than 14.5 million pounds of food to local food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens in all the communities it serves. In addition to food donations, all Wegmans stores raised a total of $2.9 million for hunger relief through scanning campaigns in 2017, and since these programs began in 1993, Wegmans has raised more than $35.5 million.

Wegmans Chantilly opens at 7 a.m. on Sunday, June 3. For more information, please visit https://www.wegmans.com/chantilly.
