Wegmans Natick Store to Close

Natick, Ma., June 1, 2023 – Wegmans today announced it will close its Natick, Massachusetts, store – located at 1245 Worcester St. – later this summer [update: July 22, 2023]. Store employees were notified throughout the day and were assured their positions with the company are secure. There are 365 employees (142 full-time and 223 part-time) at the Natick store, and all employees are being offered positions at other area Wegmans.

“Making these decisions is never easy. However, we do it for the long-term benefit of our people, our customers, and our communities,” said Brien MacKendrick, human resources director, Wegmans New England division. “Unfortunately, with this non-traditional location we are unable to attract enough customers for our business model to work.”

Wegmans identified the Natick community as an ideal location for a store in 2009 but couldn’t find a site that met its criteria until the Natick Mall location became available. The Natick store opened in 2018 and was Wegmans’ first multi-level store within a major mall. At 134,000 square feet, it is one of the company’s largest locations.

“We love our Natick community and customers, and we’re eager to pursue new store locations in the area for the future,” said MacKendrick. “In the meantime, we hope to continue to serve our Natick customers through our e-commerce offerings and our other area stores.”

Wegmans has five additional stores in the Greater-Boston area, and approximately 2,700 employees.  Wegmans does not have plans to close any other stores.

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. is a regional supermarket chain with 110 stores located along the east coast. The family company, recognized as an industry leader and innovator, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016. Wegmans has been named one of the ‘100 Best Companies to Work For’ by FORTUNE magazine for 25 consecutive years, ranking #4 in 2023.
