Distilled 1993. Bottled 2008. Little bay of caves. Double matured. Special release. Limited edition. Along the shores of Lorn lies a record for more ancient than that of any city in the land. The first settlers arrived on the mainland in 5,000 BC and sheltered in the natural caves of the land then known as 'AN OB'. The "Distillery Cave" was one such shelter hidden in the Creag A' Bharrain Cliffs which rise dramatically above the Oban Distillery. The Western Highland style of Malt is epitomised by Oban's gentle sweetness and surprising richness of palate and finish. The peatiness of the Islands it faces across the Firth of Lorn is softened by the influences of the Highlands as it's back. To underline its sea-laced flavours, Oban's Master Distiller has chosen Montilla Fino. This dry, delicate cask-wood beautifully enhances Oban's distinctively graceful style. The Distillers Edition of the Classic Malts of Scotland brings a new dimension of taste and exploration to the enjoyment of Single Malt whisky. Each of the six distilleries has hand selected a small number of their casks for double maturing. The whisky is matured for a second time in cask-wood which each Master Distiller has chosen to complement the unique character of the individual malt whiskey. The marriage of cask-wood and whisky has always been a traditional tool of the distiller's craft but the addition of a second maturing in selected cask-woods brings a new depth and complexity to these great malt whiskies. Each special limited edition is hallmarked as a symbol of rarity and superior quality. The hallmark carries the symbol of the distillery, it's founding year assay mark, the type of cask-wood in which the whisky has been double-matured and the monogram of each Master Distiller. Each bottle in the Distillers Edition of the classic malts of Scotland carries a release number, individual to each distillery, which designates she selected casks that have been especially chosen for double maturation. 43% alc/vol. Product of Scotland.
