The name comes from the Cantonese for golden orange. They're cultivated in China, Japan and the United States. Kumquats look like tiny oval oranges. The edible orange rind is sweet, while the flesh is very tart. The entire fruit is edible. Selection: Select fruit that is firm with no soft spots. Storage: If using the fruit within a few days they can remain at room temperature. Otherwise, refrigerate wrapped in a plastic bag for up to two weeks.
