To keep them fresh, keep them cold. Our growers told us that putting applies in a fruit bowl on the counter can cause apples to dry out, soften, lose flavor, and develop tough skin. Apples should be stored, unrinsed, in the fridge or in as cool a place as possible, preferably in a perforated plastic bag. Other fruits stored with apples ripen faster, so store apples separately.
