Wegmans Virginia Beach Announces Store Leadership Team in Advance of April 28 Opening

On-The-Spot Job Interviews Offered on March 7 at Wegmans Virginia Beach Hiring Office

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, Mar 04, 2019 – Wegmans Food Markets today announced the leadership team spearheading the management of its Virginia Beach store, opening April 28 near the intersection of Virginia Beach and Independence Boulevards. The team consists of the store manager, executive chef, and three area managers who each supervise several departments within the store.

This team brings an incredible amount of Wegmans knowledge and experience to Virginia Beach, said Heather Gole, human resources manager of the companys Virginia stores. We promote from within and were still hiring and training for a number of open part-time positions, so now is a fantastic time to apply.

Store Manager Mike Coyle
Mike Coyle grew up in the Finger Lakes region of New York. He graduated from Livonia High School and went on to attend Rochester Institute of Technology, where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Coyle joined Wegmans Food Markets as a produce management trainee in 1993, and later became one of the family companys first food safety coordinators. He continued to advance his career and was named store manager in Corning, N.Y., in 2008. He will oversee the stores 500 employees who will offer incredible customer service, the best ingredients, delicious restaurant food, and consistent low prices at Wegmans Virginia Beach.

Executive Chef Tom Schwarzweller
Tom Schwarzweller began cooking at age five and went on to graduate from the Culinary Institute of America. A former executive chef at the Radisson Hotel at Cross Keys in Baltimore, Md., he joined Wegmans in 2005 as executive chef at the chains first Maryland location, in Hunt Valley. He then led the kitchens at the Columbia and Owings Mills stores before settling into his new role at Virginia Beach where he will oversee an exceptional culinary team of 127. This group will provide the restaurant-quality prepared foods Wegmans is known for, with mix and match self-serve food bars, subs, hot soup, fresh sushi, The Burger Bar, and more – all for in-store dining or takeout.

Perishable Area Manager Mike Anthony
Mike Anthony began working at Wegmans in 2006 and has experience in a variety of positions, including seafood customer service, store operations intern, management trainee, front end manager, seafood manager, and service area manager. As perishable area manager in Virginia Beach, he will oversee product quality, sales, and employee development for the produce, floral, bakery, seafood, meat, cheese, and deli departments. Anthony will ensure Wegmans high standards for the freshest ingredients are met and employees are prepared to share in-depth food knowledge with Wegmans customers.

Merchandising Area Manager Tony Crispo
Tony Crispo has been with Wegmans since 2005, holding positions as frozen team leader, dairy team leader, and grocery manager, before serving as merchandising area manager at several Wegmans stores in New Jersey. He will supervise merchandising and sales for a variety of departments, such as grocery, dairy, frozen food, and Natural Wellness. Crispo will work collaboratively across the store to ensure products are well stocked and displayed to make grocery shopping outstanding for Wegmans customers.

Service Area Manager Matt Collalto
Matt Collalto joined Wegmans in 2001 as a part-time customer service employee. He worked his way up from a seafood team leader to a seafood manager, then to a front end manager, before tackling a special assignment in restaurant foods. As service area manager, Collalto will lead the front end, customer service desk, maintenance team, helping hands (parking lot attendants), and the accounting office. He will ensure incredible customer service, a point of distinction at Wegmans, and will also supervise local community giving, carrying out Wegmans commitment to make a difference in every community it serves.

Wegmans Virginia Beach is a 113,000 square-foot store that features an expansive variety of restaurant-quality prepared foods, including The Burger Bar, a family-friendly, casual restaurant counter that serves delicious burgers, fresh salads, flavorful sandwiches, kids meals, soup, sides, and beer and wine by the glass.
