Wegmans Announces Local Leadership Team Spearheading Raleigh Store for Sept. 29 Opening

Raleigh, NC, August 29, 2019 -

Wegmans Food Markets today announced the leadership team managing its new Raleigh, North Carolina store, opening at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29. The team consists of the store manager, executive chef, and two area managers who each supervise several departments within the 104,000 square-foot supermarket.

“Each member of this group shares our values. Together, they bring more than 80 years of Wegmans experience to Raleigh, our first store in North Carolina,” said Heather Gole, Wegmans human resources manager. “Their knowledge and passion are vital in developing our new employees and introducing Wegmans to the community. We’re still hiring and training for a number of open part-time positions throughout the store.”

The Wegmans Raleigh leadership team is as follows:

Store Manager Hallie Johnston
Hallie Johnston’s career with Wegmans began when she was 16-years-old in her hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania. After high school, Johnston participated in the Wegmans management internship program while attending Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. She returned to Wegmans Erie after graduating from college, holding roles in the meat and seafood departments, as perishable manager, and as assistant store manager before becoming store manager. Johnston and her family moved to Raleigh in 2018 to begin building and developing her team of 475 in preparation for the Raleigh store opening.

Executive Chef Rob Santiago
At an early age, Rob Santiago learned how to cook in his mother’s kitchen. As he got older, he found that he enjoyed making meals. Santiago joined Wegmans part-time in the meat department in 2004. Less than a year later, he went full-time while also juggling a full course load of culinary arts classes at Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York. In 2010 he was promoted to sous chef at Wegmans’ flagship store in Pittsford. Through another promotion he became a store chef a few years later and became executive chef at Wegmans’ East Avenue store in 2016. At Raleigh, he will lead a team of 120 culinary employees that will focus on the restaurant-quality foods Wegmans is known for, with mix and match self-serve food bars, a sandwich shop, hot soup, fresh sushi, The Burger Bar, and more - all for in-store dining or takeout.

Perishable Area Manager Adam Woloszyn
Adam Woloszyn began working at Wegmans in 1994 in Ithaca, New York. During his time in Ithaca, he earned his degree in applied economics and business management at Cornell University with the assistance of a Wegmans scholarship. He has previously worked in positions ranging from part-time customer service to meat manager, service area manager, and merchandising area manager. Most recently, Woloszyn was the perishable area manager at the Cherry Hill and Mt. Laurel stores in New Jersey. As perishable area manager in Raleigh, he will oversee product quality, sales, and employee development for the produce, floral, bakery, seafood, meat, cheese, and deli departments. Woloszyn will ensure Wegmans’ high standards for the freshest ingredients are met and employees are prepared to share in-depth food knowledge with Wegmans customers.

Service and Merchandising Area Manager Matthew Balutis
Matthew Balutis joined Wegmans in 2005, serving in customer service roles in the sandwich shop and as a cashier. During college, he was a Wegmans scholarship winner and a management intern, gaining exposure to different areas of the business. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Balutis has experience with management roles in meat, seafood, and on the front end. At Raleigh, he will supervise merchandising and sales for a variety of departments, such as grocery, dairy, frozen food, and natural wellness. In addition, as service area manager he will manage the front end, customer service desk, maintenance, accounting office, and Helping Hands (parking lot attendants). He will also oversee local community giving, carrying out Wegmans’ commitment to make a difference in every community it serves.
