We seek friendly people who are passionate about food and ready to learn and grow. New employees begin training shortly after theyre brought on board so that theyre knowledgeable about our products and well prepared to offer incredible customer service, says Wegmans Store Manager Mike Coyle, who joined the company as a management trainee in the produce department 25 years ago. I couldnt be more pleased with the quality of applicants weve seen here. Were still hiring and already off to a fantastic start in Virginia Beach.

The family-owned supermarket chain is highly regarded as an exceptional employer. For 21 consecutive years, Wegmans has ranked high on FORTUNE magazines list of The 100 Best Companies to Work For, placing #2 in 2018. Flexible scheduling, competitive pay and benefits, and a positive work environment are among the reasons often cited by employees when asked what drew them to Wegmans. Of particular interest is the Wegmans Employee Scholarship Program.

Since 1984, Wegmans has awarded $115 million in college tuition assistance to more than 36,500 employees. Part-time employee scholarship recipients are eligible to receive up to $1,500 per year for four years (a maximum of $6,000), and full-time employees can receive up to $2,200 per year for four years (up to $8,800 total). No limit is placed on the number of scholarships awarded each year and no restrictions are made on a students area of study.

Wegmans Virginia Beach will employ 500 people, 450 of whom will be new to the company and hired locally. In addition to traditional groceries, the 113,000 square-foot store features an expansive variety of restaurant-quality prepared foods, including The Burger Bar, a family-friendly, casual restaurant counter that serves delicious burgers, fresh salads, flavorful sandwiches, kids meals, soup, sides, and beer and wine by the glass.

The store is taking shape beautifully. With our clock tower now in place, the exterior is nearly complete, said Coyle. Inside, the floors have just been poured and polished, which allows us to start installing coolers and freezers. Its transforming daily, and we cant wait for our customers to see the finished product when we open on April 28.
