ROCHESTER, NY, May 16, 2018

WHAT:  Kickoff the growing season at Wegmans Organic Farm Starter Plant Event, and choose from a variety of organic veggies and herbs to create your very own organic garden.

WHEN:  Friday, May 18th Sunday, May 20th. Plants will remain available for sale following the event.

WHERE:  The Organic Farm starter plants are available at the following stores:

New York:
Pittsford, Perinton, Penfield, Canandaigua, Alberta, Amherst St., Sheridan Dr., Ithaca, Johnson City,                    Dewitt, Fairmount

Massachusetts:
Westwood, Northborough, Burlington

New Jersey:
Ocean, Cherry Hill

Pennsylvania:
Allentown

Started as organic seeds and grown at the Wegmans Organic Farm in Canandaigua, N.Y., these starter plants truly give customers an opportunity to bring the farm home. Choose from a variety of veggies and herbs, retailing at just $2.99 a piece, to create your very own organic garden, no matter how much or how little space you have available. Plant selection varies by store. Varieties include:

  • Smarty Grape Tomato
  • Toronjina Cherry Tomato
  • Big Beefsteak Tomato
  • Dunja Zucchini
  • Diva Cucumber
  • Mojito Mint
  • Red Knight Pepper
  • Giant of Italy Parsley
  • Dolly Basil
  • Calypso Cilantro
  • Queen Sophia French Marigold

At the event, customers will find everything they need to get started, including an easy, three-step guide to growing and maintaining a vegetable and herb garden. Wegmans Organic Farm Ambassadors will be on hand to answer questions and offer plant transplanting and care tips, including the best days for planting, creating a rich growing environment with compost, and properly staking indeterminate varieties, like cucumbers and tomatoes.

The Wegmans Organic Farm began as a 50-acre parcel and has since expanded an additional 160 acres to include the Orchard property. Both properties are certified organic by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA).
