Recruitment for full-time positions at Wegmans Food Markets’ new Chantilly store in Fairfax County is now underway. Opening in mid-2018, Wegmans Chantilly will employ approximately 500 people, including 180 full-time jobs the company currently seeks to fill. Available openings include restaurant and culinary positions such as chefs and line cooks, entry-level management, and customer service for departments throughout the store. Hiring for part-time positions will begin at a later date.
Job applicants seeking full-time employment are invited to apply online at wegmans.com/careers or call 571-525-5622 for more information. Applications will not be accepted at the construction site, nor will interviews be conducted there. Wegmans plans to begin scheduling interviews at its Chantilly employment office in early October, and new employees will begin training soon after they’re hired.
“Wegmans has been in business for 101 years and we attribute that longevity to always putting our employees first and being a great place to work,” said Chantilly Store Manager Brien MacKendrick, who began working for the family-owned company 21 years ago as a part-time cashier. “Our people tell us they appreciate the caring atmosphere and work-life balance we offer through flexible scheduling.”
The Chantilly Wegmans is a 120,000 square-foot supermarket at the Field at Commonwealth, a retail complex near the intersection of Route 28 and Westfields Boulevard. This store is the first in Virginia to feature The Burger Bar by Wegmans, a family-friendly, casual restaurant that serves delicious burgers, fresh salads, flavorful sandwiches, specialty milkshakes, soup, and sides.
In addition to Chantilly, Wegmans is also hiring for 150 active job openings at its existing stores throughout Northern Virginia. The Alexandria location will host a hiring event with open interviews for positions at that location on Tuesday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Job seekers are asked to apply online in advance of the hiring event. Part-time and full-time positions include entry-level management, cooks, and roles in the perishable food departments.
“Above all, we’re looking for people who match our values and have a passion for food,” said Wegmans Human Resources Manager Heather Gole. “With or without prior experience, we provide in-depth training to make our employees successful. As we expand in this region, there are tremendous opportunities to grow a career at Wegmans.”
Wegmans is widely recognized as an exceptional employer. For 20 consecutive years, it has ranked high on FORTUNE magazine’s list of “The 100 Best Companies to Work For,” placing second in 2017. The magazine also named Wegmans to its 2017 rankings for the “100 Best Workplaces for Millennials” and “50 Best Workplaces for Diversity.” Wegmans offers an array of benefits to employees, including flexible scheduling, competitive pay and benefits, premium pay on Sundays and holidays, career development and growth, and tuition assistance through the company’s employee scholarship program.
Wegmans entered Virginia with its Sterling location in 2004 and now operates 10 stores there. Company growth within the commonwealth continues with future stores slated to open in Chantilly, Virginia Beach, and Tysons Corner.
