Excellus BlueCross BlueShield is now offering a new option to members who want to save time and/or money when filling their monthly prescriptions. Individuals who have Excellus BCBS prescription drug coverage can now have those prescriptions filled at Wegmans, with free home delivery.
With home delivery of your prescriptions:
- Many Excellus BCBS members will save money on their medications. Savings will vary, depending on the member’s prescription drug benefit, but many members have a home delivery benefit through which they’ll save up to 33 percent on most prescriptions.
- Wegmans will conveniently deliver a 90-day supply of medication directly to your home, anywhere in the United States, with no charge for shipping.
“This new alternative to prescription delivery helps us meet a corporate goal of improving the health and wellness of our community, said Mona Chitre, Pharm.D, vice president, chief pharmacy officer, Excellus BCBS.
“Some individuals who don’t have time to visit the pharmacy or forget to fill their prescriptions may benefit from home delivery, whereas others may prefer the face-to-face relationship they have with their retail pharmacist,” she added. “We want to offer members as many options as possible so that they will be sure to take their medications as directed by their doctor or pharmacist.”
One study by the Journal of Managed Care and Specialty Pharmacy showed that Medicare Part D beneficiaries who received medications for diabetes, hypertension or high blood pressure from a home delivery pharmacy were more likely to take their medication as directed than those who picked up their prescriptions from a retail pharmacy.
About one-third of upstate New York adults who have high cholesterol, for example, don’t take their prescribed medication as directed, according to a recent Excellus BCBS report. These individuals are more likely to get sick and land in the hospital, the report said.
”We are very excited to partner with Excellus BCBS to provide this new option to their members, who will now be able to rely on Wegmans for the savings that home delivery allows.” says Wegmans Manager of Managed Care Jack Coultry, R.Ph. “We are a full-service pharmacy provider for our customers. An added benefit, for us and for these patients, is that we will now have a complete profile of all their prescription medications, not just those that are filled in the store.”
Home delivery may be ideal for individuals who take prescription medications on a continuing basis. You can fill prescriptions by phone or online and have them delivered to your home for free in five to 10 business days. Wegmans pharmacists are available to answer questions and work with your provider on your treatment plans.
