Grilled Barbecue Onion

1 large piece heavy-duty aluminum foil

Directions

  1. Preheat grill on MED-LOW 10 min. Slice off blossom end of onion (not root end). Cut vertically down into the onion, as if you were quartering it, but don't cut all the way through to the root end. Stop cutting about 1 inch before the bottom, so that the "petals" remain connected to the onion. Make 3 more cuts in each quarter to form 16 "petals" around the onion.
     
  2. Form shallow bowl with foil by bringing up the sides; place onion on foil. Drizzle onion with basting oil and sprinkle with BBQ seasoning. Pour beer over onion. Close foil "bowl" almost completely over onion.
     
  3. Place on grill. Grill 1 hour or until onion is tender and edges are slightly charred.
Chef Tips
To make ahead, prep onion up to step 3 and refrigerate until ready to grill.
