Deep fry thermometer


  1. Add oil to 2-qt saucepan; heat to 350 degrees (check temp with deep fry thermometer).
  2. Add cornmeal, flour, cayenne, salt, pepper, and garlic powder to small shallow bowl; stir to combine.
  3. Fill a separate shallow bowl with buttermilk; dip 7-8 okra at a time into buttermilk to coat. Transfer okra to cornmeal mixture; toss to coat. Add to pan; fry, stirring occasionally, 3-4 min, until golden brown. Repeat process with all okra. Drain briefly on paper towels; season with salt.
