Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  1. Blanch onions 2-3 min in large stockpot of boiling, salted water. Drain; transfer to bowl of ice water. Drain; set aside. When cool enough to handle, peel skins. Place onions in lightly buttered casserole dish; top evenly with pats of butter.
     
  2. Bake uncovered 45 min-1 hour on center rack. Stir every 15 min until onions are tender. Set aside.
     
  3. Heat demi glace in medium saucepan on MEDIUM; add onions. Simmer 1-2 min to heat through.
