The Rise of Super Tuscans

Tuesday, April 23 from 6:30-8:00 PM

Under the Tuscan sun, sangiovese has dominated the undulating landscape for as far back as can be remembered. This revered red grape continues to play an important role in central Italy today. But in the late 1960s, some producers began to wonder if a different blend of grapes would make a better wine. These pioneers began to experiment with blending higher percentages of international varieties (specifically cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc) with Sangiovese as well as aging them in small oak barrels they created what is known today as Super Tuscan wines. These wine rival the finest French bordeaux reds, and Napa Valley Cabernets. This class is not to be missed and will sell out quickly!
