Enriching Store Neighborhoods

Supporting a variety of local fundraisers and events is the everyday way Wegmans builds community relationships. We support local PTAs, faith-based organizations providing humanitarian support, youth sports, town celebrations, and community-built playgrounds. If it affects our employees and customers, chances are we can help, whether it’s a gift card donation or a larger community sponsorship opportunity.

United Way

Wegmans commitment to the United Way is embedded in the culture of the company.  For decades Wegmans and its employees have been contributing to local United Way agencies in all our market areas because it remains the most efficient way to get needed funds to agencies that get measurable results. In 2016, over $6 million was distributed to a total of 36 local United Way agencies through weekly employee payroll deductions and a corporate gift. Part of what makes this number so remarkable is that 39% of our employee population is 25 years old or younger.  In addition to payroll deductions and checkout campaigns, are the creative and fun ideas employees come up with to increase donations even more, like Jeans Days, National Hot Dog Day and kickball games.

It’s not just about writing checks and collecting money.  Hundreds of employees participate in Day of Caring events across the company and serve on United Way committees and boards.

Wegmans Scholarship Program helps build futures

Scholarships reach a new milestone

At Wegmans we’re invested in helping our team members succeed, and we offer an array of resources like the Wegmans Scholarship Program to do just that. Throughout our 101-year history, 35,000 Wegmans employees have contributed money to the program, helping their coworkers expand their education and careers, and in total, we’ve awarded more than $110 million in scholarships!

The program gives up to $1,500 per year for four years (a maximum of $6,000) to part-time employee recipients, while full-time employees can receive up to $2,200 per year for four years (up to $8,800 total). There’s no limit to the number of scholarships awarded each year, and award recipients can pursue any field of study from an accredited college.

“This program provides growth opportunities for our people, helping them pursue higher education and career goals that positively benefit communities.” - Colleen Wegman, CEO and President

Local Sponsorships

We love to help families spend time together, so we support a variety of community organizations and programs, including town concert series, children's museums, our Hit The Trail Passport, along with cause-based walks and runs.

Disaster Relief

As you know, Wegmans supports the United Way, Feeding America foodbanks, and the American Red Cross in every community where we have stores.  Because we provide so much support locally, it makes it possible for these national organizations to help when disaster strikes. The very agencies we support locally are sending trained volunteers, staff and food to the affected areas.

In order to understand community needs during times of crisis, Wegmans stays in close touch with disaster relief organizations, like the American Red Cross and Feeding America food banks. We want to be able to respond and help quickly and rely on these organizations to let us know the best way we can help.  When it comes to disaster relief aid, we focus our efforts on disasters that directly affect the communities where we have stores.

When it comes to stepping in, it’s not size that matters, but impact. Wegmans provides relief for disasters of all types and sizes. From flooding in our local communities to the recent winter snow storm, we’re ready to help with disasters big and small to get our neighborhoods back to normal.

We know from past experience that what disaster relief agencies need most is financial assistance.  It’s now easy to make a donation using your mobile device or computer, with the added benefit that the money is received immediately by the disaster relief agency chosen by the donor.

Donation & Community Sponsorship Requests

Consider our five giving priorities and submit your donation or community sponsorship request online. All donation & community sponsorship requests must be submitted through our online donation request form. Wegmans does not accept written, faxed or emailed requests.

We wish we could lend our support to every request we receive, however, there are several types of requests that Wegmans is unable to accommodate.

We help make a difference through our five key giving priorities:
  1. Feeding the Hungry
  2. Helping Young People Succeed
  3. Encouraging Healthy Eating & Activity
  4. Enriching Store Neighborhoods
  5. Supporting United Way Initiatives
