FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The soon-to-open Fredericksburg Wegmans store is almost ready. Shelves are stocked, employees trained, shopping carts lined up, and customers are anxiously awaiting the chance to peek inside the 138,655 sq. ft. supermarket. The new store is located in Celebrate Virginia South at 2281 Carl D. Silver Parkway in Fredericksburg.

 

The doors will open at 7 a.m. on Sunday, June 21, and not a minute too soon for some Wegmans shoppers who previously lived near a Wegmans store before relocating to the Fredericksburg area. “I can hardly wait until this store opens up,” wrote one such person in a recent email to company headquarters. “I honestly find myself awake at night thinking about it. Two years ago we moved from Rochester, NY where I was a daily customer…. Besides missing my friends so much, I have REALLY missed Wegmans!”

 

Store Manager Chris DePumpo is also ready, and thinks Fredericksburg will be a great place to do business. “It reminds me of my hometown of Sayre, PA. It has beautiful rural areas, as well as a nice town center. The first thing I noticed when I arrived was the smiles on the people’s faces.”

 

His goal? “I want a successful store, but I will measure success not only by sales, but also by the smiles of the people I work with. I believe that if we stay true to who we are, if we show our employees caring and respect, they will give their best to our customers. It’s like the Golden Rule we learned in kindergarten about treating others the way you’d like to be treated. If we start there, there’s nothing we can’t do!”

 

The Fredericksburg store, which employs 500, will be open seven days a week from 6 a.m. until midnight. The store’s Market Café offers restaurant-quality foods prepared by Executive Chef Douglas Jarman and his staff. Everything from specialty coffee drinks to hot panini sandwiches, burritos, an Asian-inspired Wokery Bar, freshly-made sushi, pizza, and subs are available in the café. Customers can choose to take out or dine in at the mezzanine-level café, with indoor and outdoor seating for 500. There’s also a Food Bar that seats 19, where chefs prepare fresh seafood and meat dishes made to order.
