WOODBRIDGE, VA – When ordinary words just don’t convey your feelings, you might have to invent some new ones. But that’s the kind of challenge that Virginians seem to love, judging from the enthusiastic response to a contest asking folks in and around Woodbridge, VA to describe Wegmans in just five words.
The contest is linked to the opening of Wegmans’ newest store in Woodbridge on Sunday, June 8, at 7 a.m. Nearly 37,000 have visited http://newstores.wegmans.com/ which offers a guided video tour of a Wegmans store and an invitation to enter the contest. Each week through July 8, one winning entry is chosen, and that person receives a $25 Wegmans gift card.
“We’re just days away from an incredibly special event,” says Woodbridge Store Manager Sharon Briandi, “and both our employees and the community are feeling the excitement in the air. Wegmans and Woodbridge will be a winning partnership for sure.”
More than 2,000 customers have submitted contest entries to date, most from Prince William County and surrounding communities.
Winning entries from the first three weeks:
· “Wegmans Means Prince William Wins” (from Conni, Manassas, VA)
· “Weglicious Wegvenient Wegciting Wegderful Wegmans” (from Carolyn, Springfield, VA)
· “Gas Five Dollars Wegmans Priceless” (from Paul, Triangle, VA)
One woman from Suffolk, VA used the contest to woo Wegmans closer to home: “Wegmans Please Come to Tidewater.”
Several of the best '5-word' entries, as judged by a team of Wegmans employees, are posted on http://newstores.wegmans.com/. Of more than 10,000 individual words submitted thus far, the top five in ranked order have been: fresh, friendly, exciting, quality and variety. “It’s so neat to see the words we use to talk about our business day in and day out played back to us in this way,” says Briandi.
The new 140,000 sq. ft. food market is the first store to open in the Potomac Town Center. Employing 600, Wegmans is located at 14801 Dining Way Road in Woodbridge, between Opitz and Dale Boulevards. The doors will swing open at 7 a.m. on opening day just following the traditional gathering of employees at the front of the store for the Wegmans cheer.
The Woodbridge store introduces the next generation in design for Wegmans, including an 8,000 sq. ft. wine shop; Market Café seating for 500, with an outdoor covered balcony on the mezzanine level; a new coffee shop design, and seafood and sushi bars.
