Beer & Cheese Pairings

Take your party up a notch by adding these cheeses to the mix. Or use these notes from Wegmans Executive Chef Russell Ferguson to put together your own simple beer and cheese pairing.

Four Cheese Tray

Ommegang Hennepin a. Wegmans Milky (Mild) Brie
with Ommegang Hennepin

The beer’s coriander and ginger notes work well with the slight mustiness of the rind, while not overpowering the sweetness of the cheese itself.

Guinness Draughtc. Kerrygold Dubliner
with Guinness Draught

I like the way these Irish classics go together—the sweet, almost cocoa-like flavors and creamy mouth-feel of the beer marries beautifully with the sharp, nutty cheddar-style cheese.

Dogfish Head Indian brown Aleb. Grand cru Surchoix Gruyere
with Dogfish Head Indian
Brown Ale

The nuttiness and subtle caramel flavors of the Gruyere are perfect matches with this beer, which is made with caramelized brown sugar and fragrant barley.

Chimay Premiere (Red)d. Chimay Cheese
with Chimay Premiere (Red)

This is a natural pairing. The cheese is milder than most washed-rind cheeses, and pairs well with the initial sweetness and slightly sour, yeasty finish of the ale.
