How It All Began
Ever wonder how we happened to create Food You Feel Good About? It was inspired by Colleen Wegman long before she became president of Wegmans. After returning from college in Colorado, Colleen searched the aisles for the foods she'd grown accustomed to finding when she lived out West. "Why don't we offer our customers more natural foods?" Colleen asked her dad.
He loved the idea. After all, Food You Feel Good About fit perfectly with Wegmans goal of finding new ways to offer foods that are simply delicious.
Bringing the Idea to Life
Now the real work began . . . bringing Food You Feel Good About from the drawing board to your kitchen table. So we went back to basics. We started in our own bakery. We challenged ourselves by asking lots of questions. Do we really need that ingredient? What happens if we leave it out? A big step was removing bromate, a dough conditioner that speeds up the bread-making process, but raised health concerns along the way. What we put into our bread was important, too. We wanted good things you would use, like whole grain flour.
We never lost sight of the essential question: "Will it still TASTE great?" The answer was YES! And the rest is history. Our delicious bromate-free breads became the first in an entire line of Food You Feel Good About products.
