Meet Our Family Time Contest Winner

Thank you to everyone who participated in our contest. We received over 800 entries! Each of you had a unique story to share about your family meal times, but they all contained one common theme; everyone looks forward to meals shared together. And we were truly touched to hear that Wegmans plays a part in making mealtime easier for your families.
After reading your entries and discussing our favorites, we’re pleased to announce our winner!
Meet Nicole from Rochester, NY and her family!
Nicole, her husband Dave, and their kids, Julian (age 7) and Prudence (age 4)
The winning entry:
I’ve just started a new tradition with my two kids, ages 4 and 7. Every Wednesday, we choose a meal to cook together, go shopping for the ingredients if we need them, and then spend some quality time in the kitchen. I set the kids up with a cutting board and small knives and let them chop vegetables, while I do any more extensive or complicated prep work at the kitchen counter. My 7-year-old reads the recipe aloud as we go, and they both take turns measuring, dumping ingredients into bowls and stirring. When the meal is almost done, they help set the table; I light a candle, and then we all sit down to a delicious dinner. It’s gotten the kids to try (and learn that they like) some new foods, and gives me a chance to really enjoy their company — something it’s hard to do during the weekday dinner rush. We also like to rate the recipes we try and talk about what we like and what we might change. Our goal is to find new foods (especially vegetables) that the whole family likes, and my 7-year-old has named our adventure “ExperiTaste.” We’re having a great time with it!
We asked Nicole to share what “ExperiTaste” they have planned for tonight…
“Beef stroganoff over egg noodles, with a side of Romanesco broccoli, simply because it is so cool-looking and I think the kids will get a kick out of it!”
