5 Memorable Moments from Malvern

Phew! What a day : )

After much anticipation, I have now experienced my first grand opening. I wanted to share some highlights from the day.

Here are my top 5 memorable moments:

Day Boat Station
1.) Day Boat Station in Seafood

The seafood team sliced a whole swordfish and yellowfin tuna. Talk about fresh. Meanwhile, at the other end of the station, other seafood employees were demonstrating pan-searing techniques and offering a taste. Dinner, check!

Wheel Cracking Parmigiano Reggiano2.) Wheel Cracking of Parmegiano Reggiano

John from the Cheese Shop demonstated the art of wheel cracking (cutting a cheese wheel in half). He talked about how this cheese tastes best when cracked in irregular, natural pieces. Then, he cracked an 87 lb. cheese wheel right in front of us using simple cheese-cutting tools.  It truly is an artform to get it to break evenly. Then, we got to sample some from the center of the wheel. The best of the best, delicious!

Plum-o-granate!3.) Plum-o-granate

When I first arrived @ Malvern, I gravitated towards Produce to see what was new and exciting. I tried a plumogranate for the first time. Now wouldn’t you think it’s a combo of plum and pomegranate? But, it actually is a blend of plum and apricot or “plumcot”. Whatever you call it…it’s juicy and delicious : )

The Pub @ Malvern Wegmans

4.) The Pub!

Yes, there’s a Pub in our new Malvern store. Not only can you sit at the food bar and watch chefs prepare your meal, but you can order a cold beer on tap and watch the British Open on flatscreen TVs. Never would you think you’re in the middle of the grocery store.

Courtney Briggs @ the Deli counter

5.) Working in the Deli

I was itchin’ to get an apron on and help some customers. I got the chance to serve a customer who had never before been to a Wegmans store so I told her a little about our company in between slicing her turkey. I even told her about this blog…so, if you are reading this, you made my day!

Time to drive back to Rochester.

Until next time Malvern,

  5. I work at the Perinton store, in Rochester. I’m a college girl and recently I have been contemplating making Wegmans a life-long career. If I decide to this, I would definitely love to have the opportunity to work at one of the new stores, it sounds like a wonderful experience to experience a Grand Opening! :)

    • Hi Emily- Great to hear from one of our employees! I was once in your shoes too : ) If you get the chance to work a grand opening, I definitely recommend it. It truly is an experience. Thanks for checking out our blog.

  6. I was born in Ithaca, went to college 30 min south of Rochester, then lived in Syracuse before moving to the Main Line 20 years ago.

    I’m no Wegman’s noob.

I am SOOOO happy to finally have convenient access to salt potatos, Snappy Grillers, State Fair barbeque sauce and other tastes of home…

That said, my first visit to what will surely become my Wegmans was nearly ruined by the hideous music playing – some lame smooth jazz. Even Sax-wimp Kenny G. rocks too hard for the elevator-ready mix that was playing. My cashier agreed with my observation, too, said they play better music overnight.

If it keeps up, I just might have to re-commit to the long trek to the Collegeville store (which will invariably mean fewer visits) – they play really good music there.

    • I totally agree, the MUZAK at the new malvern store is AWFUL! They need to play more real songs, like top40 hits that other Wegmans are playing, not that ridiculous, no music, elevator stuff

  7. I just can’t wait for the Landover Wegmans to open! I’m so psyched . . . it will be great to have an alternative to the other local grocery store without having to drive long distance to a Wegmans.

  8. I’m jealous ! We are here in Cleveland OH just waiting for a Wegmans to come this way ! I’m especially excited about the produce and pub ! Take a break from grocery shopping to enjoy a good lunch and beer? I’m all about that !!! Your post was a great way to share how Wegmans is different from the others.

  9. Thanks for sharing the grand opening with us! Sometimes we all cannot be there to share in the excitement. Everytime a new store opens it sends a charge to the rest of us…

    • You are very welcome Wendy! I’m glad that I was able to share my experience.
